Feeling overwhelmed? Sitting in a storm of emotions? Try using the Feelings Wheel to put words to what you are feeling.

Feeling your feelings

First start by describing what you are noticing:

Is the sensation…

  • heavy or light?

  • hot or cold?

  • big or small?

  • prickly or fuzzy?

  • constant or rhythmic?

  • slow or fast?

  • growing or shrinking?

  • tense or relaxed?

  • sharp or dull?

  • achy or soft?

  • does it move or bubble?

Moving deeper into further understanding. What else do you notice as you focus on it:

  • does it connect to other feelings?

  • what words go with it?

  • what memories go with it?

  • what imagery goes with it?

  • what sounds go with it?

  • what instincts go with it?

  • what sentiments go with it?

Moving further into deeper understanding:

  • what does it want me to know?

  • what does it want me to feel?

  • what does it want me to do?
